Taking a break from the league Landsdowne returned to their home pitch to host Castle Rangers; a Sceptre league Premier league side in the Colin Tyler cup. To get a result today Landsdowne would need to be at the top of their game.

Landsdowne settled well and were playing some good football. Everyone was giving a 110% and working for each other. If Castle were going to win today they were going to have produce some great football. They were switching the ball well but couldn’t break down a stubborn defence. Everyone was playing their part for Landsdowne and it was them who looked most likely to break the deadlock.

After about half an hour Landsdowne took a deserved lead. Sarling, making his first appearance for a few months giving his side the advantage going into the break with a composed finish..... and yes it was with the outside of his boot. With Smarty away, Rix was giving the reins. His half time talk was made very easy as Landsdowne had hardly put a foot wrong, however, Castle were going to come back so more hard work was needed.

Landsdowne almost did enough to keep the score at 1-0, but with about 10 minutes to go and probably against the run of play Castle managed to get an equaliser. With all subs made Landsdowne now needed to get themselves going again as extra time loomed. At full time, the players had to regroup quickly, the mood was very good and everyone felt confident they could go on a win.

It was the worst possible start by Landsdowne as Martin gave away a penalty after a few minutes. It was well taken and could have gave the Prem side the break they needed, 2-1. Landsdowne needed to stay strong and have belief..... Rix couldn’t have hoped for a better response as his team went straight down the other end a grabbed a superb equaliser. Sherry coolly slotting home, 2-2 Extra time, Half time.

Landsdowne changed ends looking confident, Castle changed ends looking almost defeated, they were tired and several players were getting cramp. Landsdowne took advantage of this as Sherry grabbed another goal and gave his team a deserved lead. With about 5 minutes to go Castle had little left and were forced to put an injured player in goal. This led to a mistake as the keeper could only throw the ball out.... the ball fell to Dan T who instantly sent the ball back.... leaping over the injured player and into the net. 4-2 and a great win for Landsdowne.

A superb by performance by everyone! Today proved that if everyone works hard we can match AND beat anyone. We need to take this performance and use it for the hard upcoming games. Today’s man of the match could have gone to several players but Alex Quinn got the votes. Well done mate.
