Syrus was the opposition standing in the way of another 3 points for Landsdowne Rangers today, and it was the 2nd time we had met them in as many weeks, and Landsdowne wanted to make it 4 wins in 4 games in the league which would really cement there place in the top 3.

Landsdowne were 1 – 0 up in what seemed like minutes, a shot by Gavin Mayo was blocked and dropped nicely for Graham Rix to volley into the back of the net from the edge of the box. 1 up and Landsdowne were on there way. Wasn’t they?

An incident that say Tony Bush throw the ball at the linesman was the only other action in the 1st half, as there linesman blatantly cheated for the 4th or 5th time in a row, the Syrus players claiming that “We are not cheating!!!” Well it was moments after that, that it came to light that there striker was being called by 2 names, highlighting the fact that they were playing an ineligible player… not bad for a team that doesn’t cheat.

At half time we swapped photo ID books and after 5 minutes of Chris trying to look for the photo of the ineligible player, (Chris clearly having a Dave Rix moment) it was explained to him that the player wouldn’t be in the book as he isn’t signed on….

Syrus started the 2nd half without there player that they still claimed “was signed onto them” but more importantly 1 – 0 down.

Syrus soon changed that score-line as they promptly went up the other end of the pitch and scored to leave the score-line locked at 1 – 1.

Brian Butler then added another assist onto his tally for the season, as a nicely lofted ball zoomed across the face of the goal, allowing Terry to take full advantage and nod home to put Landsdowne back in control of the game.

2 – 1 soon became 3 – 1, as Graham slide the ball in for Gavin Mayo to charge through and pass the ball into the back of the net. surely that was the final nail in the coffin for Syrus. No, Syrus to there credit battled back, and gave themselves another lifeline as they pulled a goal back to make it 3 – 2.

With that, Landsdowne went up the other end of the pitch, and with a off swinging shot by Rob, landed nicely on Graham’s chest, and with his second volley of the game, volleyed the ball into the back of the net.

Landsdowne maybe could have ended up 5 – 2 winners, but Gorilla’s creative cross onto the diving head of Graham was saved brilliantly by the Syrus keeper. Gorilla’s first assist will have to wait till another day.

3 Points and job done, 3rd place and gaining on second spot. Not bad for a team that got 2 points from there first 4 games!!!!

Man of the Match was John Wilson. John’s performance showed how solid we are looking at the back at the moment. Although we did concede 2 goals today. We were still solid at the back for most of the game. Can it just be said that JOHN DID NOT WIN M.O.M BY TACTICAL VOTING!!
