After the first defeat of the season Landsdowne were looking to bounce straight back; today opponents South Leigh Manor. Already met once this season, Landsdowne narrowly winning a hard fought game 2-1. With Medcraft away, Dariusz offered his services in goal while Munyard took the place of Danny Sarling in the centre of midfield. Hard work and commitment would be key today, as this was lacking from last week’s disaster.

Landsdowne settled well and were playing some good football. Everyone was giving a 110% and working for each other. The first halve was tough for both teams and it ended in a 0-0. Smartey was happy at half time, he couldn’t fault the work rate and simply asked for more of the same.

It wasn’t long until the home side took a deserved lead. Good work by the midfield gave Rix a good opportunity on the edge of the box. He hit a powerful shot goal ward, which the keeper looked to have covered..... at the last minute the keeper misjudged the flight of the ball and it flew into the net. 1-0 and Rix was off the mark for the season.

Landsdowne continued to dominate, this time good pressure by Rix caused the right back to give the ball away. It fell to Marling who with still quite a bit to do coolly slotted the ball to the right of the keeper, 2-0. Moments later it was 3, as Rix again doing well through the middle played a good through ball for Quinn who did his best to miss but kept going eventually beating the keeper, falling and then managing to kick the ball into a empty net, 3-0 to Landsdowne and game over.

Landsdowne now looked comfortable, they were playing good football and were staying strong at the back against the South Leigh attack. The game had all but ended and then the South Leigh Centre half decided to go on rampage picking a fight with Bushy, it was pretty much handbags until the keeper decided to pick a fight with Marling. A push was then followed by a PUNCH, fortunately for the player the ref did not see it! So no red card. It has to be said though that it was disgraceful and should not happen on the football pitch on a Sunday morning. This sort of killed of the game. A penalty was awarded near the end, as the South Leigh striker smashed the ball goal wards and it hit Yards hand. Yard keeping up his 100% record of giving away penalties during home games. The penalty, almost saved by Dariusz, unfortunately it just went past his stretched leg losing hope of a clean sheet. Final score 3-1.

Another great win for Landsdowne and another 3 points. Well played boys. Let’s keep it up. Man of the match this week could have been several players but was given to Yard for his battling in the middle of the park. Cheers lads!
