After a very hard fought cup victory against Reecon today’s opposition seemed an easier option, and if the performance was just as good as last week a victory would definitely be on the cards. It was important for Landsdowne to be confident, as this had definitely been lacking in previous weeks. Due to upcoming fixture congestion today’s game was to be a double header so for both teams the first game was going to be very important.

From the off Landsdowne were playing some great football, it was fast and flowing. Kybert was having some great possession down the right and was skinning the left back on almost every attack. It wasn’t long before this pressure led to the first goal. Yard played the ball in for Kybert who looked up and played a fast front post cross to meet a great run from Dan T to make the score 1-0.

It was now pretty much all Landsdowne, St. George were finding it difficult to create an opening and were being hassled by the away side. The defence were standing strong and very little was troubling Jamie between the sticks. Another quick break, this time down the left created another opportunity. John Wilson made a great run down the left, and linking well with Dan T finds himself in the box to smash the ball home with a very composed finish; 2-0.

At half time all of the Landsdowne players were in good spirits after a very good first half performance. It was vital now that they kept their composure and killed the game off early as they needed to be ready for the second game.

Again Landsdowne continued to dominate; however a lapse in concentration gave St. George a chance to grab a goal back and with ten minutes left it was looking like it was going to be an anxious finish.

This feeling did not last long as a mistake by the St. George defence gave Dan T a great opportunity to put the game to bed, he did just that with a simple finish, 3-1. Moments later Dan T was on the attack again, after some scrappy defending the ball was passed to Yard who slotted the ball passed the keeper to make the game completely safe and guarantee 3 points.

Overview of game:

A convincing win for Landsdowne, which was never really in doubt. The game was played at a fast pace early on, which suited the away side. It took them little time to score and after that they never looked back. A well deserved 4-1 victory which meant confidence was very high for the second game, which was only moments away. Good performance lads.
