Landsdowne Rangers got off to a disappointing start in their first ever game in the Southend Sunday League despite scoring early on when a fine ball by Dave Allen down the middle put Graham Rix through to score the first goal.

However, Anchor countered with a series of long balls, eventually equalising after a defensive mix up left their striker with a simple chance.

Landsdowne fought back and took the lead again when a slide rule pass by Tony Bush put Graham Rix behind the defence to score his second goal of the game.

They then pressed forward, looking for a third goal, but couldn't quite capitalise on some good chances and as half time approached, Anchor again equalised after another defensive mix up.

Hence, the teams were level at half time with two goals each.

In the second half Anchor continued to play the long ball game and scored after 60 minutes to take the lead despite objections from Landsdowne that the goal was offside.

Landsdowne seemed to be deflated by this and could only create half chances thereafter, with Anchor scoring again late in the game, when a cross from the right went straight in the top corner, to win the game four goals to two.
