Man of the match

It was a very very sad day in Landsdowne's history as it was their last ever home game at Oakwood Park.

Mr Bush (also known as Mr Bush) formed the club some fourteen long years ago at the tender age of 21. So it seemed fitting that having scored on his first home game he also scored the last goal for Landsdowne at Oakwood Park.

The sun was shining but the mood was as grey as a wisp of hair on Tony's head because not only was it their last home game but after nine attempts Landsdowne had not managed one single point at home. The question was, could they break the bad home form, could they come away victorious ? The answer was, "could they F***!!!"

Despite a good performance Landsdowne left empty handed as they have all season, the team performed well and had it not been for some bad luck and some top draw saves from Ross Sports' goalkeeper they might have got at least a point for their troubles.

The game got off to a good start which saw Landsdowne take the lead when a throw-in was flicked into the back of the net by a very elated Tony Bush.

Despite the set back Ross Sports attacked searching for the equaliser and after a lucky rebound and some head tennis they were level in the space of five minutes.

The rest of the first half was played at a good tempo with both teams having opportunities, however a lack of concentration by Danny Sarling saw the visitors take a 2-1 lead at half time and receive a deserved B*LL**K*** from the Captain.

At half time I think Peter was still inebriated from the night before as he mistook football for his Saturday night kebab, he informed the team about "biting and fighting for scraps", and as far as I can remember "dribbling" was also mentioned.

Landsdowne came out in the second half determined to get something out of the game, however despite their efforts they conceded a third goal.

A long high ball was played down the right and Spooky decided to wait for the ninth bounce before he attacked the ball. Unfortunately the striker pre-empted this, had a cup of tea and a fag, and then put the ball in the back of net to leave Landsdowne trailing 3-1.

It all looked over for Landsdowne until a penalty decision gave Landsdowne a life-line and up stepped Mr Bush to score an excellent penalty and make it 3-2.

At this point Landsdowne were on top and only a top draw save kept the score at 3-2, stopping Tony getting his hatrick and breaking Landsdowne's hearts.

The game was going Landsdowne's way but they couldn't unlock the door and then with five minutes to go Ross Sport scored from a corner, leaving the final score-line 4-2 which shattered any chance of a fairy tale ending.

MAN OF THE MATCH Tony Bush could not speak after the game as he was so upset, but as they say every cloud has a silver lining and due to his emotional state he was allowed out till 1.00pm without a "Bushy Pass".
