Barring the Fusion game, Landsdowne were now hitting a bit of form at just the right time. However Landsdowne only won the 3 points last time they met St George by one goal, so today’s game was not going to be an easy walk over. With all the preparation of Steeling John Wilson’s trainings, taking the mickey out of Tony, taking the mick out of Dave Rix’s flood pants, and laughing in fondness at the absent Dannys “normal” trouser wear. Landsdowne were now ready for the game.

Landsdowne were 2 – 0 down at the break, as a corner given away cheaply, very cheaply was turned in, and then with Landsdowne having a free kick on the edge of the St George box, after being blocked by a defender, lead to them running the length of the field and the ball being fired into the far corner from there nippy winger.

At 2 – 0 down at half time, St George really only had 2 good chances up until that stage, as Landsdowne played most of the 1st half in the St George half, but still managed to not test there keeper.

With that in mind the 2nd half started, and with seconds on the clock, Rob Marling won the ball superbly in the centre of midfield, and laid the ball out wide to Graham who got to the bar line and crossed the ball in, the ball somehow managed to loop over the keeper and defenders, right onto Gavin Mayo’s boot. 2 – 1 and Landsdowne were back in the game with 44 minutes to go.

After being laid through about 3 or 4 times in exactly the same position just off centre towards the right, and seeing all his shots banana off into the bushes or the rugby pitch behind the goal, Graham was once again laid through, this time a lovely pass from Chris down the line sent him on his way, but this time Tony Bush was up with him, Tony (obviously were skates as he was pilling forward at such speed) was in the cenre of the box. Graham chipped the ball over the defender playing piggy in the middle, and Tony, with a slow bend down and a creek of the back, headed the ball past the advancing keeper.2 – 2, 70 minutes played Landsdowne know had their tails up.

Both teams pushed forward to get the decisive goal, but it was Landsdowne who got the break through, the ball was knocked forward, close to the keeper, and Graham managed to nip in front of the keeper, the keeper unluckily connecting with him, and a penalty was awarded. While the ref sorted out the fact that Tony had caught the St George defender with an elbow, the defender (later self diagnosed himself as having a broken nose) stuffed selotape up his nose (as that’s all that was to hand) and went back onto the field. Graham waited for about 5 or 6 minutes before he could finally take the penalty and put Landsdowne 3 – 2 up.

The game ended at that score-line and Landsdowne have now used there “get out of jail free" card for the year as this game rode a little to close for comfort, however coming from 2 – 0 down showed a lot of character and spirit, that Landsdowne seem to be gaining and gaining each week as the dressing room spirit is now the highest I have ever seen it with any Landsdowne team.

Man of the Match: Rob Marling was said to be everywhere on the pitch today, however I must stress again, that with Rob and Terry on the same team, people must realise that they are 2 different people!!!
