Today’s opponents Vasco De Canvey; a relatively unknown opponent but Landsdowne knew not to take any team for granted. After a dominating performance last week they would be looking to do the same. The message from the manager was too start fast with quick football.

Landsdowne did just that, they had lots of possession and created several chances on the break. A great ball down the right from Chris Vieceli found Dan T in lots of space. Dan glanced up and crossed a low ball into the box for Stuart Medcraft to easily score; 1-0.

Landsdowne continued to dominate; they were looking very dangerous on the counter attack. A high cross in the box from Stuart Medcraft confused the Vasco defence and left Gavin Mayo to power the header home from 0.5 yards. 2-0. This seemed to wake up Vasco who started to up the tempo and put the home team under lots of pressure. A long ball down the middle was brilliantly controlled by the Vasco forward who turned and finished a superb solo goal; 2-1.

At half time Vasco seemed on top although Landsdowne were winning 2-1. They needed to up their game to be certain of a victory. They came out the second half at a fast pace and looked good on the counter again; a great cross in from the right by Graham Rix was met by Stuart Medcraft who almost missed from 2 yards out; a scuffed kick fell to him again allowing the second attempt to be coolly slotted in. 3-1.

Vasco did not give up; they kept battling and with some good football quickly found themselves back in the game. With five minutes to go Vasco had pulled themselves level however it was now Landsdowne pushing for the win. A quick throw by Gavin Mayo gave Stuart Medcraft a free run at goal and the chance for his hat trick. The shot was hit with power but unfortunately it needed to be placed. Final score 3-3.

A good game and performance from both teams. Landsdowne started well but failed to continue their dominance. Vasco did very well to get themselves back in the game and in the end a 3-3 draw was probably a fair result. Next time if 2-0 up Landsdowne need to continue to work and play football because this could have been another 3 points.
