Graham Rix

Landsdowne travelled to Shoeburyness on the back of 3 consecutive defeats determined to end their miserable run.

Manager Pete Smart tried a new formation of 4-3-1-2 with Gavin Mayo sitting behind the front two of Rix and Bush.

Things got off to a good start for Landsdowne with Graham Rix slotting home from the edge of the 18 yard box after good build up play from Danny Sarling & Dean Weaving.

Graham then made it 2-0, calmly putting away a penalty created himself with some fancy footwork down the right.

However, an unfortunate slip by Spooky enabled the opposition to run clear down the right and drill in a low cross which was tapped in at the far post to bring it back to 2-1.

Shoebury then made it 2-2 ten minutes later with an almost identical goal.

Graham got his hatrick & Landsdowne's third after Gavin Mayo's venomous low cross was drilled home giving the Basildon boys a 3-2 lead at half-time.

It didn't take long for Shoebury to get back on equal terms though in the second half with a sweet 30 yard drive that gave keeper Darren Playford no chance.

However, Landsdowne were in fighting mood and clever work from Terry Bush down the left let in Graham to drive home from such a tight angle Tierry Henry would have been proud of it.

Yet another defence slip lead to Shoebury levelling with 15 minutes to go.

Then a stroke of luck for Landsdowne, pressure from Gavin Mayo suddenly lead to Shoeburys left back mistiming a pass back to his keeper, Tony Bush intercepted and curled the ball around the keeper to give Landsdowne their first win of the season.
