This weeks opposition; Little Thurrock Dynamos in the third round of the Essex Junior Cup. After an encouraging performance against Fusion the week previous Landsdowne were hoping to get back to winning ways. With three losses on the bounce all the players knew they needed to start performing otherwise a season of doom was beginning to look inevitable.

Some bad news from last weeks game meant that Landsdowne were going to be without the hard battling James Grieve. Hope you get better soon mate!!

This should have inspired Landsdowne and given them a reason to want to play as it just shows a freak accident could happen at any time. Unfortunately it was another poor start as the home side started the game the faster and the stronger of the two. Some bad luck lead to the first as Rob Marling passed the ball back to the keeper Jamie, and in true Paul Robinson style the ball bounced cruelly just at Bullock was about to strike the ball, over his leg, rolling agonizely into the goal; 1-0. It went from really bad to worse as Landsdowne continued to struggle and were being overran in pretty much every area of the pitch. Poor defending and an even poorer work rate led to the score being 4-0 at half time. There were no positives to take from first half. It needed to be a completely different team to come out and start to play football.

After a stern talk from Graham, Landsdowne knew what they had to do; up their work rate, battle in all areas of the pitch and play for each other. The second half was a much improved performance and if it wasn’t for some excellent goalkeeping (not from Paul Robinson) the score could have been very close at the end.

Chances from John Wilson and Yard were expertly tipped over the post. Rich Martin missed yet another penalty!! And Graham Rix grabbed a consolation goal after some good battling from Gorilla saw the ball fall to Yard who passed the ball across the box for Graham to smash home.

Overview of Game: Final score 6-1. A much better second half team performance but unfortunately the damage was done in the first half. As a team Landsdowne need to up their work rate and more importantly start playing for fun. 11 players who start the game need to have a positive attitude and want to play for each other. Hopefully with the Christmas break now upon us the rest will do everyone good and the old Landsdowne will start the New Year.
