After some confusion with the Militia pitch Landsdowne secretary Robert Marling managed to keep the game by switching the game to Wickford Rec. These teams met once last year; Landsdowne taking the points with a good 3-1 victory. Today Landsdowne would need to be at their best if they wanted a similar result.

Both teams started poorly, the only highlight of the first half was a moment of madness by Martin who decided to pick the ball up in his own box after he believed he was failed. Medcraft made amends with a great penalty save keeping the scores level at 0-0. Lansdowne’s only change feel to Yard who hit the woodwork with a 30 yard screamer. What a goal that could have been??

Landsdowne started the second half the better of the two. They were beginning to play some good football and were looking threatening going forward. Rix and Trevarthen causing lots of problems from the wings. Landsdowne finally managed to break the deadlock. A good through ball found Bushy who was onside and coolly placed the ball past the keeper, 1-0.

Unfortunately this goal neither inspired Landsdowne to push on nor did it break Militia. With about ten minutes to go Landsdowne fell apart as Militia took advantage of some poor play. They grabbed an equaliser from a long throw and then moments later won their second penalty of the game after Dariusz had chased back 80 yards to make a late slide tackle in the box. This time no save from Medcraft giving Militia a 2-1 lead.

As Landsdowne pushed forward to grab a goal Militia caught them on the break and grabbed the decisive goal. Final score; 3-1.

A disappointed Landsdowne at the end of the game. Each player knew they could and should have won if they turned up today. Unfortunately they didn’t. They needed to work harder and try and play football. Militia deserved the win in the end but were not the best side Landsdowne had faced this year. Next time boys.......
