Landsdowne took to the field today determined to get three points against a very good Leigh Ramblers side and they got off to a great start when in form Gavin Mayo opened the scoring with a good finish after a jinking solo run down the left.

Unfortunately the lead lasted only fifteen minutes after a mix up between Darren Playford and Mark Hart saw the ball fly into the corner of the net leaving the game poised at 1-1.

Leigh Ramblers at this point took the game to their visitors with a string of attacks which Landsdowne defended well, keeping their chances to a minimum. After soaking up a lot of pressure Landsdowne then launched a counter attack that saw Tony Bush hit a powerful 35 yard lob with such precision that it left their keeper with no chance.

The home team nearly equalized but the ball was cleared of the line, the decision was contested by many players but only a net cam would have revealed the true outcome leaving the score 2-1 at half time.

The second half got under way and Landsdowne were back under the cosh for about fifteen minutes. However, another good individual effort saw Gavin race clear and score Landsdowne's third after his initial chip shot was saved but fell kindly, leaving him the task of tapping the ball into the empty net.

Five minutes later the game was put out of reach after Grahams scuffed shot was tapped in at the back post by an elated Tony Bush.

Landsdowne carried on battling with fantastic support from the sidelines, all the players could hear was the echoing around the stadium of "keep your sheep, keep your sheep". Unfortunately moments later the game took a turn for the worst when two of Leigh Ramblers players lost their heads and started abusing the women on the sidelines instead of concentrating on their football. This was a shame as it was clear they were a very good team and credit must go to the other nine players for trying to play football and not get involved as this is what we all turned up for.

From here on the game produced 3 more goals.

A cool finish from Graham Rix after some nifty footwork again down the right by Gavin making the score 5-1. Then a rifled shot by Graham after eventually receiving the ball from Tony Bush, to be fair though Graham said while he was waiting, the tea he made was a lovely cuppa. This made it 6-1.

The final goal of the game came from Leigh Ramblers, a header at the back post after a good free kick leaving the game at the final whistle 6-2.

Man of the match Tony Bush was unavailable for comment as he had to be home and was late already. As he run past the commentator all was heard was "the dishes the dishes".
