Landsdowne Rangers lost in the first round of the Essex County Junior Trophy after a tight game at Oakwood Park.

A much improved first half performance saw Landsdowne take the lead midway through the first half. A sweeping pass made by Dave Allen found Nathan Duck on the right wing. Nathan's low cross then found Tony Bush who went on to score his first goal of the season.

However, whilst Landsdowne continued to press they could find no way past Leigh's defence despite some fine passing football for the remainder of the half.

In the second half Landsdowne continued to play the better football but with 65 minutes gone Leigh equalised after a deflected shot flew past goalkeeper Mark Potts and into the bottom left hand corner.

Leigh then scored again, 13 minutes from time, when a free kick on the left flew straight into the top corner after bouncing over everyone.

It was enough to win the game for Leigh and knock Landsdowne out of the cup, although it was a fine performance by Landsdowne and a game they didn't really deserve to lose.
