A week off from the league today as Landsdowne take on their second premier division side of the season in the Colin Tyler cup; today’s opponents Isla Athletic. Although the underdogs Landsdowne were quietly confident of causing an upset today.

Both teams started well but it was Landsdowne who were having the better of the play, Bushy twice forcing the Isla keeper into two very good saves, both strong headers. Bushy was having a lot of joy up top with the Isla defence struggling with his aerial prowess. Isla were passing the ball about well but were offering very little up top against a strong back four.

The scores stayed level until half time, 0-0. Landsdowne were confident during the interval, they were having the better of the play and had created the better changes at goal. The second halve began with both teams staying the same. Landsdowne started with a positive attitude, unfortunately the referee made a howler early on. Martin intercepting a through ball but it was going goal bound, Medcraft reacted well to keep the ball out and picked up the ball as it clearly not a back pass. The ref must have seen something else as everyone other person on Waterside field knew it wasn’t deliberate. Landsdowne blocked the indirect free kick well but Isla manage to score from the rebound, 1-0 and to be fair it was against the run of play.

Landsdowne had to lift themselves as they still had a great change to get something from the game, moments later some good football down the right led to a great change for Martin. He caught the ball well as it looked to be smashing into the roof of the net, however once again the keeper pulled off a great save and tipped the ball over, could this keeper be beaten?

The answer was no as Landsdowne couldn’t find the goal that they deserved. As they pushed forward Isla broke, getting the winner and ensuring the victory. Final score; 2-0. Unlucky for Landsdowne, they played some good football, particularly first halve and on another day should have been out of sight before the ref could have even given a shocking decision. Oh well boys, still a cup final and a possible 3rd place finish on the cards!!
