Last week’s victorious double-header against St. George meant that Landsdowne were full off confidence going into this weeks fixture. The opponents; an old foe, Bromfords Reunion. Both teams have found themselves in the same league for the past three seasons; over that time they have played each other several times. Each game has been different, as has the result.

Today’s game was going to be a tough game but after three wins on the bounce the home team believed they could achieve a win. The game started at a fast pace with both teams battling for every ball and trying to take an early lead. It was pretty much end-to-end football but with both teams working so hard there was very little in the way of clear-cut chances. Bromfords were looking threatening from set pieces but Landsdowne were dealing with everything being thrown forward. The defence were standing strong and each player was giving their all.

As the first half progressed the home team was creating more and more. The midfield was creating some good opportunities but struggling to break down a very strong defence. It was going to take something special for either team to take the lead; just before half time a great cross from Richard Martin was met by a stunning volley from Dariusz. The ball smashed into the net and gave Landsdowne an unexpected but a well-deserved lead.

At half time the manager gave a very positive team talk. He didn’t have anything to criticise as everyone was fighting for the cause and giving their all. More of the same was going to be needed in the second halve. The game began and it was very scrappy, again Bromfords were dominating set pieces but Stuart in goal was having a blinder and didn’t look like conceding in his return between the sticks. The whole Landsdowne team was battling for every ball and really trying to grind out a result. As the game neared the end there were a few nervous moments however the defence was not going to be breached today. The final whistle went; a great 1-0 victory for Landsdowne.

A superb result that was well deserved. Some great individual performances but more importantly a great team effort. Everyone put in a great shift and played with great confidence in not only themselves but for each other. Well done lads, another three points earned!!
