This week’s opposition is Reecon Rovers. This will be the third time these teams have met, however this time it was a cup game. The first game was a dismal performance however Landsdowne played with passion in the second game and were unlucky to lose 2-0. Today’s game needed the same but a lot more.

Both teams started well and it was looking like it was going to be a very close game. Reecon were having a good share of the possession but the home side were soaking up the pressure and using fast counter attacking football to great effect. A quick break created a chance for Gavin down the left who smashed the ball home to make the score 1-0. This seemed to come as a shock for both teams, but it was Landsdowne who began to take control of the game.

Reecon continued to have good possession however they could do little with it as they were continuously closed down by a very hardworking Landsdowne side. The defence were strong and with Rich and Yard putting in a good shift in the middle Reecon were creating very little. Every time Landsdowne broke they looked dangerous. Dariusz was working hard as the lone striker and Dan T, Gavin and Graham were supporting him continuously. Just before half time the home team got a deserved reward for a great battling performance; good work by Graham allowed Deano to knock a great ball into the box, Dan T received the ball and with a very composed finish he rounded the keeper to make the score 2-0.

At half time the manager’s talk was very positive, however the job was only half done. Landsdowne needed to battle as Reecon were surely going to fight in the second half.

The whistle went and it was more of the same; soak up the pressure and hit on the break. A good pass by Graham put Yard in down the right, he sprinted to keep the ball and then waited for support. Dan T was waiting on the edge of the box and was found with the cross from Yard. A quick shot (which took a deflection) but was definitely on target made the score 3-0 and put Landsdowne in a fantastic position.

Reecon didn’t stop fighting which meant the home team could not afford to relax as a goal could easily change the game. The goal came as a lapse in concentration allowed the away side to pull one back. With the score at 3-1 Landsdowne now needed to concentrate and dig in deep. They did exactly that as each player worked not only for themselves but also for each other. The final score was 3-1.

A great result for Landsdowne, which was certainly over due. Everyone battled and unlike previous weeks they all supported each other. It was a very tough game however the victory was well deserved and it came against a very strong side. More performances like this will definitely lead to more victories. Well done boys and well done to the man of the match, Richard Martin who had his best game yet in the centre of midfield.
